EUDR and sourcing from Malaysia

Malaysia is currently classified as standard risk. EUDR preparation is especially relevant for palm oil, rubber and wood supply chains exported into the EU.

Malaysia's current classification

Malaysia is currently standard risk in the EU benchmarking system. This means operators generally should not assume the simplified low-risk pathway.

Key supplier-data issues

  • Separate plantation or forest origin from processing-facility location.
  • Keep mill / processor data linked to upstream plots.
  • Confirm exact CN code for palm and rubber derivatives.
  • Validate GeoJSON before declaration preparation.

For processed products, traceability should preserve the connection between the finished or semi-finished product and the relevant commodity production areas.

Key point: Country risk affects the due-diligence pathway. It does not decide whether a product is in scope. Product scope still depends on the current Annex I CN code.

Recommended workflow

  1. Confirm the exact product and CN/HS code.
  2. Identify the relevant commodity and actual country of production.
  3. Collect production-location and supplier evidence.
  4. Validate geolocation and batch linkage.
  5. Apply the appropriate due-diligence pathway for the current country benchmark.
  6. Keep records aligned for the applicable declaration workflow.
